Frequently Asked Questions About OdorXit® Products
1. What is OdorXit?
OdorXit® is the Registered Trademark for a growing number or truly
excellent odor elimination products that are made in the USA and for sale
world wide. There is considerable overlap in the odors and uses for the
various OdorXit® Products. This overlap has been and continues to be the
source of considerable misunderstanding as to which product is best for
your particular odor problem. This page will try to explain the general
strengths and weakness of each of the OdorXit® products
2. What is OdorXit® Concentrate?
OdorXit® is a combination of water soluble organic salts and oils that
eliminate organic odors including all sources of urine, feces, vomit, spoiled
food fish and meat, skunk spray, dead rodents and many other difficult
odors. When used as directed according
to
which odor is on
what material, OdorXit
quickly and permanently removes the odors. OdorXit® Concentrate uses no problematic
enzymes (which ARE NOT compatible with detergents or germicides), bacteria,
oxidizers or olfactory desensitizers.
3. What is the difference between OdorXit® Concentrate and OdorXit® Magic?
OdorXit® Concentrate uses a combination of counteraction (neutralization),
bonding and absorption. This technology permanently eliminates, not masks
odors on contact. OdorXit® Concentrate is a “Contact Chemistry”. That means
it only works when it comes in direct contact with the odor source.
OdorXit® Magic uses several variations of the absorption technology. Because
absorption is by definition limited by the amount of malodor material
it can absorb, OdorXit® Magic, though very effective, has a limited life
and needs to be reapplied periodically. Fire & tobacco smoke,
wet dog smell and urine in carpet padding should be treated with OdorXit
Magic NOT Concentrate because Concentrate is much less effective on these
malodors and materials. OdorXit® Magic is supplied with a low volume mist
sprayer that is well suited to treating relative small areas of contamination.
If a larger area needs to be treated a trigger spray or pump sprayer can
be used by used to spray the material after it has been diluted 3 to 6
parts water to 1 part OdorXit® Magic.
4. How many gallons of solution can be made with OdorXit® Concentrate?
We offer several sizes of OdorXit® Concentrate. A 4 oz. bottle, when diluted
with water, will make up to 1 gallon of solution. A 16 oz. bottle will
make up to 4 gallons. We also offer a 64 oz. bottle that makes 16 gallons..
A 16 oz. bottle will eliminate organic odors in 1,000 square feet of wood
or concrete flooring.
If you are working on scent spray on walls and wood work we recommend that
you use half the amount of water when diluting the mixture. An 8 oz. bottle
of OdorXit® Magic includes a mist sprayer and is applied 5 or 6 pumps per
square foot of carpet, flooring or walls.
5. How do I treat solid surfaces?
- Establish the location of the odor source.
- Clean and rinse the contaminated areas with TSP ( tri-sodium phosphate)
or Spic and Span. Allow cleaned areas to dry completely or use a wet/dry
vac to remove the spent cleaner and rinse water..
- Apply OdorXit® Concentrate mixed and diluted as instructed and allow
to dry naturally.
- For very small areas (one time pet accident), a trigger pump sprayer is completely
acceptable
- For small areas and taxidermy, a ½ gallon hand held tank sprayer will
perform well.
- For larger areas, you may want to consider a 1 or 2 gallon garden or
deck tank type sprayer.
- For really big jobs like yards and gardens, several adjustable mixture
rate End Hose Sprayers are now available, are cost effective and work
very well.
- Warning! Do not use tank sprayers that have been used for bug poison,
yard chemicals or deck sealer to apply OdorXit. Always start with a new
sprayer and use it only for OdorXit.
6. How do I apply OdorXit® to carpeting?
OdorXit® Concentrate’s unique chemistry makes applying it to contaminated
carpeting with a carpet cleaning machine is a natural match. Unlike most
odor control products, OdorXit® can be mixed with the carpet shampoo and
will benefit from the surfactants (wetting agents) in most shampoos.
*Applying OdorXit® with a carpet cleaning machine will only affect the contaminants
in the carpets nap and the top of the backing, though most if not all of
the backing actually needs to be treated.
We recommend that you start your carpet recovery effort with a carpet
cleaning machine and apply OdorXit® in combination with the carpet shampoo
supplied with the machine (2 to 3 ounces of OdorXit® per gallon). There
are two benefits to this method of application. The carpet gets cleaned
and the wetting agent (surfactant) in the shampoo helps the OdorXit® penetrate
more deeply into the carpet nap and backing. On the last pass with the
carpet cleaning machine, spray the cleaner/OdorXit® mixture but do not
vacuum it out of the carpet. If the odor persists, chances are the padding
and/or the flooring underneath the carpet has been contaminated. The flooring,
baseboards, trim, etc. will need to be treated. (See applying to solid
surfaces)
7. How do I treat scent spray?
Since spray is usually on a vertical surface (wall, window or door frame,
door, back of sofa, etc), clean surface with TSP (tri-sodium phosphate)
or Spic and Span before spaying OdorXit. Dilute OdorXit® 15 parts water
to 1 part OdorXit. Be sure to saturate area and pay close attention to
crevices and unprotected trim, bottom of doors, and back side of trim and
baseboards.
8. How can I get rid of skunk spray?
Skunk spray on cars, pets and outside surfaces respond very well to OdorXit
Concentrate 30 to 1. We recommend sponging the diluted OdorXit® onto the
pet, not spraying. It can safely be applied to the face, ears and fur.
For indoor surfaces (furniture, carpeting, clothing, crawlspaces, inside
car, etc.) and other enclosed spaces, OdorXit® can be sprayed on or try
OdorXit® ClO2. This is a sealed packet of powdered
chemicals that when exposed to water or water vapor, produces small amounts
of chlorine dioxide. The ClO2 acts like a super
ozone to oxidize odor sources that are susceptible to oxidation but at
much lower levels or concentration than are required for ozone.
9. How does OdorXit® work on mold and mildew?
All mold remediation efforts must start with the removal of the water
or moisture source that is feeding the mold.
C can remove the odor and interfere with the spreading
of the mold fungus.
OdorXit® ClO2 will actually kill the fungus and
spores to eliminate the mold problem as long as the moisture/water problem
has been resolved. We offer
5 gram to 50 gram packets
of ClO2 to accommodate a wide range of
applications.
